    Position Summary

    The Head Mechanic / Equipment Manager reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for the overall management, maintenance, and performance of the golf course maintenance equipment fleet.

    This position plays a critical role in the success of the golf course operation by ensuring all equipment is safe, reliable, properly maintained, and performing at the highest level. The Equipment Manager will have the opportunity to build and improve a comprehensive equipment program while working closely with the Superintendent and maintenance leadership team.

    Responsibilities

    • Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain all golf course maintenance equipment, utility vehicles, and small engines.
    • Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive preventative maintenance program.
    • Perform reel and bedknife grinding, mower setup, adjustments, and quality-of-cut evaluations.
    • Maintain accurate service records, equipment histories, preventative maintenance schedules, and repair cost tracking.
    • Manage parts inventory, purchasing, receiving, and vendor relationships.
    • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and efficient equipment maintenance facility.
    • Train staff on proper equipment operation, daily inspections, cleaning procedures, and safe operating practices.
    • Monitor equipment performance in the field and make recommendations for adjustments and improvements.
    • Assist with long-range equipment planning, budgeting, and capital replacement recommendations.
    • Maintain strong communication with the Superintendent and management team regarding equipment needs and priorities.
    • Promote a culture of professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and safety throughout the maintenance operation.

    Qualifications

    • Minimum of two years of experience as a golf course equipment technician, assistant equipment manager, or similar role.
    • Strong knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, welding, and preventative maintenance practices.
    • Experience with reel grinding, mower setup, and maintaining precision turf equipment.
    • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a management team.
    • Excellent communication skills and a professional approach to working with others.
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
    • Understanding of golf course maintenance practices and how equipment performance directly impacts turf quality and playing conditions.

    Compensation & Benefits

    • Salary: $70,000–$90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
