Northland Country Club in Duluth, MN is accepting applications for an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. Northland was established in 1899. In the 1920’s the members of Northland commissioned the services of Donald Ross to design a golf course on the scenic hills overlooking Lake Superior. Donald Ross designed over 400 golf courses and became one of the most well know golf course architects in the world. Northland Country Club is one of his hidden gems. Its location overlooking Lake Superior and the terrain are second to none.
With its setting near Lake Superior, Northland offers many unique micro-climates and will provide a wonderful learning experience for a motivated golf course manager.
In keeping with Donald Ross’s design concepts, our golf course should play firm and fast. Our terrain dictates how shots might be played; therefore, the ground game is a key consideration for maintenance standards and agronomic practices. Our maintenance standards and practices support the golf course’s design concepts. Our Restoration Architect, Ron Prichard, with his associate Tyler Rae, advise our membership on implementation of our ongoing master plan.
The golf course has a variety of grasses present including bents, fescues, and poas. Our agronomic practices promote the populations of bent grasses and fescues while minimize populations of weaker species present in our region.
As the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you will manage the golf course maintenance department’s day-to-day activities through maintaining quality standards, developing and retaining maintenance employees and exceeding member expectations. You will participate in the planning and implementation of activities related to the care and maintenance of Northland. The Assistant will be involved in all facets of golf course maintenance. It is our goal to prepare you with all the tools necessary to being a successful Golf Course Superintendent by the time you leave Northland.
