Scholarships
The MGCSA Scholarship Fund,
originated in 1987, will be accepting applications for the 2008
scholarship year in January 2008. The MGCSA also offers Legacy
Scholarships. The Joseph S. Garske Legacy Award, originated in
1996 and the MGCSA Legacy Award, originated in 1998.

The MGCSA scholarship is an
annual grant awarded to candidates who are interested in golf
course management as a career, have high scholastic capabilities
and have superior performance as an employee of a golf course. Students meeting the following criteria are encouraged to apply:
1) Candidate must be a resident
of Minnesota or have been employed by a Minnesota Golf Course
Superintendents' Association member Superintendent the season
prior to applying for a Scholarship.
2) Candidate must (a) be currently enrolled in his or her first
year in a two-year turfgrass technical program or (b) currently
enrolled in the second or third year of a four-year program with
major emphasis in turf management.
3) Fill out the application
form completely and return with transcripts by March 1, 2008.
Also include two current head and shoulder photos.
4) Have both Advisor and
Superintendent return their reports postmarked by March 1, 2008.

Instructions for Applicants
The enclosed forms represent the process by which a student must
apply for a Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association
Scholarship Award. the multi-page “Applicant’s Statement” must
be completed by the applicant and forwarded to the address at
the bottom of this instruction sheet. If supplemental pages are
required, the applicant shall submit them on 8 1/2” x 11” typing
paper, clearly identifying the item on the printed application
to which they apply.
Two forms are attached to the scholarships application. One
should be completed by your college or school advisor and mailed
directly to the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’
Association Scholarship Committee from the school,
postmarked on
or before March 1.
The second form is to be completed by a golf course
superintendent for whom you have worked and forwarded directly
to the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association
Scholarship Committee by the superintendent. Both forms are to
be sent separate from the application that you are completing;
they need not accompany you scholarship application, but they
must be postmarked by March1.
To complete the scholarship application process, you must make
arrangements for your transcripts to be sent to the Scholarship
Committee by March 1, 2008.
Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association scholarships
are awarded without regard to race, sex, creed, age or national
origin.
Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association scholarships
are awarded for one academic year at the option of the Minnesota
Golf Course Superintendents’ Association Scholarship Committee
and may be renewed for one additional academic year upon
reapplication by the student.

Summary of Scholarship
Criteria
1) Applicant must be a resident of Minnesota or employed by a
Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association member.
2) Applicant must currently be enrolled in:
a. The second year of a four-year or baccalaureate program with
major emphasis in turf management.
b. The first year of a two-year turfgrass technical program.
3) In order that an Applicant be considered for the scholarship
he/she must completely fill out the application form.
4) Applicant must secure reports from:
a. A superintendent that he/she has worked under.
b. A college advisor from his/her particular college.
5) Past recipients of the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’
Association Turfgrass
Scholarship may reapply for the award.
6) All applications must be completed, submitted and postmarked
no later than March 1, 2008.
Summary of Scholarship Procedures
1) Applicant must meet all criteria and satisfy all requirements
as described in the preceding pages.
2) Applicant must submit the following items to the Scholarship
Committee not later than March 1.
a. Transcripts from all institutions attended since graduating
from high school.
b. Applicant’s Statement and Questionnaire.
3) It is the applicant’s responsibility for the timely submittal
of the following two additional reports to be filled out. these
forms must be delivered to the appropriate Superintendent and
Advisor with a request that the forms be completed and returned
to the the Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association
Scholarship Committee no later than March 1.
4) The Minnesota Golf Course Superintendents’ Association
Scholarship Committee will review the applications and select
semi-finalists by April 15.
5) Recipients will be asked to attend the Minnesota Golf Course
Superintendents’ Association Conference.
