Edina Country Club is currently accepting resumes for the position of Horticulture Intern for the summer of 2012. The Edina Country Club is a private 18 hole facility located in Edina, Minnesota. The country club’s golf course was originally designed in 1923 by Tom Bendelow. In the summer of 2010 it was restored by architects Tom Lehman and Chris Brands. A Master Plan is being developed for the Landscaping of the entire property with Phase 1 encompassing a facelift to the front entrance of the clubhouse.

Applicants for this position must be enrolled in a 2 or 4 year program in ornamental horticulture or related field. Applicants must have a strong work ethic possess the ability to work individually or in groups of people, and be highly motivated.

Summer duties include but are not limited to:
• Mowing and all other aspects of daily maintenance (weeding, pruning, planting etc.)
• Installation and maintenance of seasonal displays as well as permanent landscape beds
• Irrigation operation maintenance and repair

Some overtime may be required as well as the ability to work weekends when scheduled.

Benefits include: uniforms and golfing privileges

Horticulturalist Position
The Minikahda Club is now accepting applications for the position of Horticulturalist. This is a full-time year round position. The Minikahda Club is an 18-hole private country club in Minneapolis. The Minikahda Club was established in 1898 and has an extensive history of hosting national golf championships throughout its storied history. The original club house is in a setting unlike any other in the state. This historic building overlooks beautiful Lake Calhoun as well as downtown Minneapolis.

Requirements include:
• A two year Associates or four year Bachelor degree in Horticulture or similar field.
• Knowledge of the characteristics, growth habits, and proper cultivation of a wide selection of ornamental plants including annuals, perennials, biennials and deciduous and coniferous trees.
• Knowledge of the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers, soil types, pesticides, water requirements and how they are related to the landscape areas.
• Have the ability to obtain a Minnesota Non-Commercial Applicators License
• A valid Drivers License
• Understanding of small res-com sprinklers including repair and installation.
• Can-do attitude and a willingness to be a part of a successful and cohesive team environment.

Duties Include but are not limited to:

Golden Valley Golf and Country Club is now accepting applications for the position of Golf Course Technician, available immediately. This is a full-time, year-round position. GVGCC is located five miles west of Minneapolis in the suburb of Golden Valley. The club was founded in 1914. It has an A. W. Tillinghast designed golf course, nine tennis courts and swimming pool. Annual rounds are about 22,000. The course has bent/poa greens and fairways and bentgrass tees. A fully automatic Toro irrigation system was installed in 2008.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Accurate calibration, application and record keeping of fertilizers and pesticides. (Must demonstrate the ability to perform calculations related to pesticide and fertilizer applications.)
• Support superintendent and assistants’ golf course maintenance responsibilities.

TPC Twin Cities is accepting applications for the position of turfgrass intern for the 2012 golfing season. TPC Twin Cities is an Arnold Palmer designed golf course with Tom  Lehman as consultant. It opened for play in 2000 and features over 50 acres of bentgrass greens, fairways, and tees. TPC has over 70 sand bunkers and 14 bodies of water. We play host to the 3M Championship of the Champions Tour. The 3M Championship rates annually as one of the top stops of the Champions Tour. The intern program at TPC Twin Cities will touch base on the following items, depending on a students’ level of experience and education.
1. Administrative experience including budgeting, chemical and fertilizer programs and personnel management.
2. Equipment management including basic mechanical skills, setups and repair of equipment.
3. Golf course preparation-set-ups, tee markers, hazard lines, etc.

Turfgrass Management Internship- Seasonal position, flexible start and finish dates.

Minnesota Valley Country Club is an 18-hole, private golf club. A classic architectural design by Seth Raynor in 1924, the course plays just over 6,800 yards. Minnesota Valley was the first fully-certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Golf Course in Minnesota, and continues to maintain a strong Audubon program.

Career & Educational Benefit- A person in this position will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistants in daily operations of the golf course. The internship experience will be focused on the expectations and goals of the Intern, but will include duties such as:

Midland Hills Country Club is located five miles east of Minneapolis in the suburb of Roseville.  It is a 1919 Seth Raynor classic designed private club. Annually rounds are 19,000. With no tennis or pool facilities, Midland Hill’s complete focus is the management of it's golf course. 

We are looking for 2 highly motivated Turfgrass Management Interns to work closely with the Superintendent and Assistants. We make it our goal to shape each internship around the goals set by the students themselves. An eagerness to learn and a strong attention to detail are expected.

Midland Hills has a progressive history of continual improvements to its golf course and maintenance fleet. A new Toro irrigation system with E-OMSAC/Lynx controls, renovated bunker complexes with independent irrigation, restored Seth Raynor architectural objectives as well as continual renovation and additions of tee boxes, which have all been completed in the last several years. A new Toro maintenance fleet is utilized. We are also in the middle stages of a comprehensive tree management program that has started to open up the golf course as Raynor’s original intent. Structural projects for 2012 include added fairway and approach swale drainage, green expansions, irrigation additions/deletions, improvements to native areas, redesign/installation of clubhouse perennial beds and XGD installation on more green complexes.

Position:        Turfgrass Management Internship for 2012 golf season.

Course Operation:    Private country club, 18 holes, 6900 yards, Bent/Poa greens, tees and fairways, Kentucky bluegrass rough; Toro automatic irrigation system.

Duties:    Intern will be involved in all aspects of golf course grounds management including: sprayer/spreader calibration, fertilizer, plant protectant and growth regulator application and record keeping, golf course set-up, turf disease and insect identification, mowing and mechanical troubleshooting, irrigation/drainage repair and maintenance, turf grooming and topdressing, mowing operations, hand watering and syringing techniques, crew supervision duties on various small projects. Devils Lake Town & Country Club has an opening for 1 internship starting this spring. The ideal candidate will be able to gain valuable experience as we will be finishing the construction and grow-in of 4 new holes, a practice green, and new clubhouse. Depending on how soon the intern is available he or she will be able to work directly with the superintendent and Duininck construction on the following: irrigation layout, irrigation installation, controller installation, final grading on tees, fairways, greens and seeding/grow-in of all areas.

Devils Lake Town & Country Club is a member owned course, located on the banks of Creel bay. The course was designed by Mike Morley and opened in 1921. The course measures 6400 yds, and has bent/poa greens, blue/rye/poa fairways and tees.

Along with the construction experience the internship will also include but not limited to: spraying, fertilization, finishing bunker renovation, small drainage projects, irrigation R&M and everyday maintenance and course setup.

Requirements include
A two or four year degree in Turfgrass Management
A minimum of three years golf course experience
Must have a Minnesota Pesticide Applicators license or the ability to obtain one
Be able to correctly calibrate and operate spray equipment
   
Typical Functions
Technician is involved with all facets of golf course maintenance and management. They work under the direction of the Superintendent and Assistant. They perform various maintenance duties from daily course set-up, chemical and fertilizer applications to the greens, tees and fairways, crew and project management and irrigation set-up and repair.

Salary Range: up to $14/ hour, this is a 10 month position with the ability to move into the Assistants Superintendent position in December 2012

Montgomery National Golf Club is now accepting resumes for an Assistant Superintendent.  MNGC is located 30 minutes south of Burnsville in Montgomery, MN.  MNGC was the first design by popular golf architect Joel Goldstrand.  Montgomery National Golf Club is a public, 18 hole golf course measuring 6540 yards. 
Course Operation:
MNGC consists of bent/poa greens and tees.  Fairways are mostly bluegrass mixed with bent and poa.  MNGC has a moderate budget and utilizes a semi automatic irrigation system controlled by satellites.
Duties:
The correct candidate WILL be involved in fertilization, pesticide application, daily golf course set-up, irrigation repair and troubleshooting, using basic IPM, decision making and work with the crew on different projects. 
The correct candidate SHOULD have a pesticide applicators license or the ability to attain a license, ability to learn on the fly and interest in learning about every aspect of a golf course from irrigation pumps to adjusting reels.
Salary:
Hourly wage will be up to $15/hr. DOE; overtime paid after 40 hours/ week.  This is a 10 month position.  Lunch discounts.  Paid Pesticide license.
Experience:
The correct candidate should have 2 years golf course experience, a turf degree, or at minimum, some turf training. (MTI/ MGCSA Seminars, etc.)    The correct candidate should live within a reasonable distance from the golf course.

We are looking for two highly motivated individuals to work in coordination with the management staff to implement sound maintenance practices to achieve optimal turfgrass conditions.  The job will involve the student in the refinement of turfgrass quality and a few special projects mentioned below.

StoneRidge Golf Club is now accepting applications for the position of TURFGRASS MANAGEMENT INTERN for the 2012 season.  Potential candidates should be currently enrolled in or have recently graduated from a turfgrass management program. 

StoneRidge Golf Club is a semi-private golf club located in Stillwater, MN and opened in 2000.  It is an 18-hole links-style course designed by Bobby Weed.  The golf course was built out of a sand and gravel mine with very large greens and fairways.  Stone Ridge features L-93 creeping bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways and is the highest rated daily-fee course in the metro area by Golf Digest. 

Responsibilities:  We will be willing to work with any candidate to help model a program based on what type of experience you have in different areas.  Intern will be involved in all aspects of golf course maintenance, including but not limited to:
    -golf course set-up
    -irrigation system maintenance (Toro Network LTC Plus automatic system)
    -fertilizer and pesticide applications
    -small crew supervision
    -course improvement projects 

Requirements:  Drivers license, possess or ability to obtain a Minnesota Pesticide Applicators License, and must be highly motivated with a great focus on attention to detail.

We are looking to hire two candidates to complete a dual internship at Somerby Golf Club and Rochester Golf and Country Club.  The candidates will work at separate courses and switch every three weeks giving you sufficient time to finish any cultural practices being done at that time.  This will provide a unique opportunity to experience the maintenance practices of two very different and highly regarded private golf courses. 

Somerby Golf Club is located in Byron, MN and managed by O.B. Sports.  The course was designed by Tom Lehman / John Fought and opened in 2004. The course has bentgrass greens, tees and fairways.  Somerby is ranked in the top ten courses in Minnesota and has been the host of two Nationwide Tour events.  Rochester Golf and Country Club is located in Rochester, MN; the club was established in 1916 and the course was designed in 1926 by A.W. Tillinghast.  The course is a bentgrass / poa mix from tee to green.  Rochester Golf and Country Club is one of the oldest and mature courses in Minnesota.  The two courses are located only ten minutes apart.

At both facilities interns will participate in a wide variety of activities including but not limited to: fertilizing, spraying, irrigation work, disease scouting, needle tinning, small projects, along with everyday practices which will prepare the candidate for future success in the industry.  Each candidate will have the benefit of working on different irrigation systems, grass types, equipment and much more.
